Barbara Bisceglia

Throughout her life, Barbara has always felt connected to education and loved working with children. She started her education career in the field of special education. While living in California, she worked as an Early Intervention behavioral specialist and was the Supervisor of center-based services. She worked closely with families and provided services for children with a range of learning styles. She loved the idea of working in an environment where children’s developmental needs were the focus of the educational philosophy, which is how she was introduced to Montessori! She began her Montessori journey when she moved to the Washington, DC area. She completed both her Infant/ Toddler and Early Childhood Montessori Certifications at the Institute of Advanced Montessori Studies in Silver Spring, Maryland. She worked at the Barrie School as an Early Childhood teacher before transitioning to the Head of the Toddler Division. She also worked as a consultant for the Institute of Advanced Montessori Studies. Barbara completed her Master’s Degree in Montessori Education from St. Catherine’s University where she focused her Action Research thesis on Montessori in the home and connections to parent education. Most recently, she has been working as an independent Montessori consultant where she works both in the classroom and home settings mentoring teachers and parents. She also works for a Montessori teacher training center and is the co founder of Open Door Montessori.

In addition to her love for Montessori education, Barbara also enjoys spending time with my family, cooking, hiking, gardening and reading. As a “Montessori Mom” to her 3 young children, she is continuing to learn new ways to bring Montessori to the home setting, which is always an exciting challenge!
